Open Call for Committee Members
To encourage member participation and ensure diverse and active engagement within SMISS, members are invited to apply to serve on one of the SMISS committees. Below is a structured application process for members interested in contributing to the growth and success of the society through committee work.
Application Process Overview
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be an active SMISS member in good standing.
- Must have a demonstrated interest and/or expertise in the relevant committee’s area of focus (e.g., Research, Education, Membership).
- Prior experience serving on a committee, task force, or leadership role within the spine surgery field is a plus, but not required.
Committees:
- Education Committee
- Endoscopy Committee
- Research Grant Committee
- Traveling Fellowship Committee
- Young Surgeon Committee

Openings on each committee are announced annually based on need and committee size limits. Special project-based committees may also be available.
Application Materials: Applicants are required to submit the following:
- Completed Application Form
- Current Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Letter of Recommendation (Optional)
Submission Process:
- Applications should be submitted electronically via the SMISS online portal.
- Deadline: All applications must be submitted by Thursday, May 1, 2025 to be considered for the upcoming term.
- Applicants are encouraged to apply early as positions are competitive and the selection process is thorough.
